We fundraise extensively so parishes carry as little as possible — a Discipleship Team is a partnership. Parishes typically contribute toward accommodation and a portion of programme costs. Figures vary by team size and length of stay, so get in touch and we'll work up a quote tailored to your parish.
Missionaries live together in community in parish-provided accommodation, ideally close to the church and ministry spaces. That proximity is part of what makes the model work — missionaries are present, accessible and woven into parish life.
A mission year runs from late August through early June — roughly nine months. Many parishes invite return teams in subsequent years to deepen what's been started.
Every missionary completes six weeks of intensive formation before the parish year begins. Training covers Catholic doctrine and apologetics, prayer and discipleship, evangelisation, working with young people, safeguarding and team life.
No — they amplify it. Our missionaries work alongside parish priests, youth ministers and lay leaders. They bring new energy and a focused presence to what your parish is already building.
Teams typically focus on teenagers (12–18), but most also engage with younger children's sacramental preparation, young adults and young families. We'll shape the team's focus around your pastoral priorities.
Each team has a Team Leader and reports into NET Ireland's mission staff. We're in regular contact with both the team and the parish priest, and we hold the team to a clear set of mission expectations and safeguarding standards.
Accommodation for the team, a designated parish contact, basic ministry space, and a willingness to integrate the missionaries into parish life. We provide the missionaries, training, supervision, ongoing support and the ministry tools.
We start parish conversations 12–18 months in advance so we can place the right team in the right setting. The earlier we talk, the more we can shape together.
